Datia Attributes its name from its ancient ruler Dantravakra

Lord himself this district is in pious Bundelkhand region. this
district is having many sacred places like Peetambra Peeth
Sankua, Sonagir etc. Peetambra Peeth is the place where the
people of all India visit for grace of Maa Peetambra One of the
Ten Maha vidya the form of Goddess Tahsil Head quarter of
Seondha is associated Sankua where four sons of Brahma Sank,
Sanandan Sanat Kumar & Sanatan took penance to attain peace.
Sonagir is great plignimage of Jains. It is said lakhs of Jain
sants achieved the goal of Salvation at this place.
Besides the holiness the districts histrorical important is also
worthly to be mentiand due Ashok's Inscription of Gujarra. A
night stay of the great king on this Place shows its commercial
importance too. It is one of the minor rock Edicts of Ashok
(273-236 BC) and begins with the sentence of Devanam Priya
Preyadarsin Ashok Raja. The importance of Gujarra version of the
edict lies in the fact that it is second epigraphic second where
his personal name Ashok Raja has been used. Prier to its icong
in light only maksi Edict wa s having name Ashok Raja.

Dalpat Rao was
rular of Datia (1674-1707) who actively participated in various
Mughal compaign of Deccon. It is said while he was at Aurangabad
as emissany of Sambhaji has managed to escape through escort of
Dalpat Rao. When pussuing party reported the matter to khan
Jahan, he was famous and accused Dalpat Rao, who devied the
allegation but Mughal viceroy refused to accept his explaination
and lend a force to search his camp. On this entire Budela
baetion rose arms ultimately khan Jahan was obliged to desist.
In
Nov. 1681 Dalpat Rao joined Hassan Ali khan in campeign of
Decean. He received would during Remsaz. He participated in the
sized of Adoni 1688 and was made Killedar of the fort. In 1692
he suddenly left Adoni and joind prince of Bedar Bakhat and
thereby incurred the displeasure of the emperor.
In 1700 Dalpat Rao became the commander of Mughal army of Deecan
and conquered many forts. Dalpat Rao supported Azam Sah in his
dispute with sah Alam with his brined Raja Ram singh of Kotah.
Both the friends died in the battle field.
In
the above brief discussion it is clear that Dalpat Rao fought
many battle victory was on his side except in the last battle.
Our

talking about Rasnidhi and Akshar Ananya.
Prithivi Singh was the son of Dalpat Rao. The eldest son
Ramehadra got the throue of Datia while Prithvi Singh got Jagir
of Seondha. Prithivi Singh was a man of letters who wrote Ram
Hazar with the name Rasnidhi and Akshar Ananya was his adviser
and guide.
Datia again came to the lime in 1946 when Gandhian technigues
of nonviolence and Noncooperation were successful.
Ain-ud-dim was appointed as Diwan of Datia state in Dee. 1943.
He was ill tempered and dictator. Abder his atrocities of 2.5
yrs. He was opposed by public and government servants. when all
the Govent Servant tender resignation. He was dismissed on 4th
Dec. 1946.
Datia district is situated between 250 28' to 260
20' North lattidude and 700 10' E to 780

The city is situated on Agra
Mumbai main track at a distance 75 Kms. from Gwalior and 27 Km.
from Jhansi.
The
Agricultre is the main occupation of the district.
As
per census of 2001 the population of Datia is 6, 28,240 of which
3,38,232 male and 2,90,008 Female. With the population demists
of 223 person per sq. Km.

record growth in the field of female literacy was observed.
